Stephanie Guymon Family

Steph: School is going well; last week was homecoming…lots of fun dressing up for Spirit Week. It was a little sad because this is our (Lynne Selim and I) last year at Peoria . They are phasing out our program at PHS and moving us to one of the new high schools (we don’t know which one yet). We will both miss Peoria very much…as Selim likes to say “if you cut me I will still bleed Green and Gold!”

Alex: I’m sorry to say I think I have misled everyone on the mission thingy. I thought all the paperwork had been turned in for Alex’s mission, but apparently there was some major miscommunication between me and the dentist’s office. Paperwork that I thought had been in for months never got sent. We now have it and Alex has had his interviews but he still needs to have his wisdom teeth pulled. I have learned a lot through this process though and hopefully things will go much smoother when its time for Damien to go on a mission.

Damien: was the victim of vandalism a week and a half ago, when someone through a rock through the back window of his car. It shattered the back and cracked the front. We still don’t know if it was personal or random, but that has been a real pain.

Jordan: Ironwood band won their regional band competition and is going to State in two weeks. He’s really excited.

Mckaela: just had her 12th birthday and is now in Young Women. For her birthday, she got to spend the day at the fair with three of her friends, they had a great time. Also, Dad and Shannon came to town and took her to get a new hair style. She looks so grown up!

Mike and Rachel Guymon Family

Dearest Family,

FYI:  This entry now goes to Mike’s family as well.  We love reading about you!!  We love hearing what you all are doing.  Mel and Shannon, have you guys moved yet?  Where and when?  I guess I haven’t done the best job of telling the kids everything that is going on with all the family.  I said something about Adam and Jessica building their house and the girls said, “Cool!  When are they moving to Oklahoma?”  In my defense, I KNOW I told them they were moving there the same time we were moving to Minnesota but somehow that didn’t stick.

October cruised right on by here.  Soccer ended at the end of the month and we were all glad since all the games were at night in the freezing cold.  Amber’s last game was a 7 p.m. and Mike was out of town.  I had to take all the kids and Braden had a fever and a yucky cough.  I pumped him full of Advil and he did okay.

We had MEA (Minnesota Education Association) week where the kids were out of school for a few days.  We went to a Rock and Mineral Show where the kids got to do crafts, collect some cool rocks, and they won 2 awesome door prizes.

Mason had his Kindergarten screening test this month that all 3 ½  - 5 yr. olds are required by law to have.  He passed everything except they said he couldn’t hear “middle tones.”  They rechecked him this week and he was able to hear them.  Yeah!!  We are so grateful that he has come so far so fast after not being able to say 1 word when he was 2.  The couple of sounds he has a hard time saying the specialist said are age appropriate and he has until he is 6 or 7 to master them!!

On the flip side, after I attended a few ECFE classes with the boys and listened to some little kids talk, I realized that even though Braden talks more than Mason did, we can’t understand him and Braden sounds nothing like the little girls singing the songs word for word at school.  So I asked a few questions and Early Intervention came to our house to do a pre-evaluation.  He could point to all the things they asked and he identified all 15 pictures when asked.  I thought he did great.  When asked what do you do with oven/stove, he answered, “Mom!”  When they went over the results with me, they said he was very talkative and responsive but got a low score because he didn’t put any of the ends on any of the words.  They come on Friday to do the entire evaluation and see if he qualifies for help.  If he does, they come to our house until he is 3 and they he would go to the school for speech.  Braden had the flu for a week and then got an ear infection.  After 2 weeks he is still coughing a little but sleeping better!  He is back to his silly crazy self! (i.e. standing on the table pretending to be a monster, chasing the others while they run in fear, smiling a mischievous smile when you ask him to stop doing something and he smiles and continues to do it—basically being a two year old)  It is good to have him back!

Amberly is loving school, is one of the top readers in her class,  and is a friend to everyone.  She really likes to read the Bones mysteries, as well as any Young Cam Jansen and Cam Jansen books.  She is also a great soccer player with quite a number of goals under her belt, (or shin guard)!  Amberly loves to make people laugh!!

Talia and Sarah are doing great in school!!  Their teachers are great and we are very impressed with the school system here.  They loved playing soccer this year and are awesome defenders!!!  They love to play school with Amber and her little friends.  The 5th grades here have a mile run they time and the top runners from each class are invited to a  big cross country style mile run.  Well, the girls both placed at the top in their classes and did great at the run on Saturday.  They wanted to puke when they finished.  I told them that is how you can tell if you ran your hardest.  They said they didn’t think cross-country running was in their future.  I’ll keep working on them!!  Amber, Talia, and Sarah started piano a few weeks ago and they are excited to be playing again.  Amber is so excited to start and loves to practice!!  Mom loves that too.

Mike is busy, busy, busy.  He is an awesome dad and husband.  He Sunday school class is a handful for him each week.  Imagine 10 or so 12 & 13 year olds in a small classroom talking back and forth the ENTIRE lesson.  They rarely stop talking for more than 4 seconds even when someone is reading a scripture.  It drives Mike crazy but he has been asked to “channel their energy” instead of asking them to shut up – which is what I want to do when I go in to help.

Rachel kept busy with the regular stuff and got Braden’s flu.  I am still sick after 6 days and ready to scream.  No wonder it took Braden 2 weeks to feel completely better.  I am feeling somewhat better and the end is in sight.  Let’s just hope the others don’t get it!  They can’t afford to miss that much school.  We will be checking into flu shots very soon!!!

Everyone just came back from trick-or-treating and they have a ton of candy.  Sarah was a Jedi, Talia was a Japanese girl (although they were “Minnesota Twins” for school and church party—get it—the baseball team Minnesota TwinsJ), Amber was an Indian, Mason was, of course, a Jedi, and Braden was a pirate.

We love you all tons and hope you are loving life amidst the chaos and uncertainty of life.  Mom, hang in there!!  Along the idea of one of Dad’s favorite sayings, “The stress will be gone when you have finished everything on your list!”  (for those of you that don’t know Dad’s saying –It will feel better when it stops hurting.)  We love you and appreciate everything you are doing for us all!

Love, The Minnesota Guymons

Rich and Rebecca Jarvis Family

Hi Everyone!!  We are so excited about the chance to read up on how everyone is doing.  We have had a fun and busy month.  The highlights have been going to the pumpkin patch/corn maze, and our family vacation to Utah.  We went just down the road to pick pumpkins, go on a homemade train ride, and get lost in our very first corn maze.  The kids of course picked the biggest pumpkins they could find and got us lost in the maze.  But we did eventuallly make it out and made some fun memories.  Michael kept saying that he knew the way and would get us out for sure!!  And you know how our family loves trains, well they thought that ride was pretty fun.

Then, we pulled the kids out of school for a week and went on our family vacation for the year.  We went to Utah and stayed with our dear friends, Carsen and Michelle, who watched Joseph for the day so we could go to Lagoon with the oldest three.  We thought we were being so smart going during the school year to avoid the crowds, little did we know that it was UEA weekend for all the Utah schools, thus, the whole state seemed to be there.  But we still had fun!  Brooklynn and Richy went on their first rollercoaster, and Michael braved the TidalWave, which is the big boat that swings back and forth very high, so that you feel weightless for a few moments at the top of each swing.  They all went on lots of kiddie rides too.  By the end of our day, they were finally brave enough to try some real rides, but alas, it was time to go.

We were also able to hike down in Zion's, go to a huge dinosaur museum, Hill Air Force museum, and to stop at 6 different Temples and take pictures of the kids in front of them.  They are each going to line one whole wall in their rooms with pictures of them in front of Temples.  We had quite the memorable experience at the Jordan River Temple.  It was 9am, and probably about 35 degrees outside.  We all had on our warmest winter coats and hats and had just reminded the boys of the need to be reverent around the temple.  Well, this particular temple has a big round relflection pool out in front, and soon, the boys had forgotten about being reverent, and they decided to chase each others shadows.  Well, I'm sure you can see where this is going.  Michael got a little too close to the pool and did a full front flip into it without even realizing what was happening.  I pulled him out and Rich got a quick picture of the now very sad Michael.  He didn't even cry, he just stood there with steam coming off of his soaking wet clothes with this totally shocked look on his face.  I ran to the car and grabbed his blanket just as a cute little old lady ran out from inside the Temple in her white dress.  She had witnessed the whole thing and insisted we bring him inside to get warm and change into dry clothes.  Three or four of these sweet Temple workers fussed over Michael who was still shocked that he had actually fallen in the pool.  Michael didn't say anything for over and hour!!!  It was sooooo funny, and sooo sad!  When we took the kids later to the Distribution Center in SLC, he asked for a picture of the Temple he "fell in at."

We also had a lot of fun swimming at the hotels we stayed at and stopping to have dinner with Rich's sister, Rachel in Orem.  We finished our week at Mary and Mike's house in Twin Falls, visiting and playing with more cousins.  It is so fun to have the kids play with their cousins.  We are anxious for them to be able to see all their cousins whenever plans permit.  Know that everyone is always welcome!!

Well, we are all healthy and happy and hope you are too!!  We hope everyone is getting out on regular date nights and doing lots of things to strenthen their marriages!!  We are sadly seeing a bunch of people around us having problems and are daily grateful for each other!!!  Take Care of each other!!!  Love, Bec

Mike and Mary Ferguson Family

I can't believe it has been a month since the last nesletter.  The Fergusons have had a fun filled month!  We started our month off with Ward Temple Day in the Boise Temple.  Mike went to four sessions back to back and had a good experience doing some of his family names.  I was able to go to a session while Rebecca babysat all 10 kids plus s few extra.  We loaded up everyone and the trailer full of ATVs and headed for the Jarvis cabin in Donelly.  The scenery was breathtaking and the cabin very large and roomy.  It was fun to see a baby foal (one of Rich's sisters), four wheel through the mountains, and walk along the Cascade Lake.  We lost Mike, Katelyn, Jacob, and little Michael for about an hour while we were all hiking.  It was a little scary but very funny when we look back.

The next weekend Mike and I hosted a dinner party for his managers at work and their spouses.  it was my first time doing this kind of entertaining.  The dinner was a potluck and had a Halloween theme.  It was interesting to get to know the people he works with each day.  Mike and I do not socialize with his work associates but it was nice to meet everyone.  The same weekend I had my first symphony performance.  My friend from Austin was in town and she,Mike, Katie, Brandon, and Lizzie came to see me.  It was fun to perform and to watch my family in the audience.  The concert was about and hour and a half with an intermission.  We played four pieces that whole time.  Mike commented afterward how long the songs were.  I did catch a few of them nodding off.  it was fun to dress up and play for everyone!

We had our first snow this month and the kids went wild playing in it for a few hours.  It was very cold and windy that whole week.  We are really going to have to get used to the weather here in Twin Falls.  I have been shopping all month for boot, coats, hats, gloves, mittens, etc.  Living in texas brought a few ice storms but nothing like this.  It is cold, cold, cold.

This last weekend we spent in Idaho Falls at Katelyn and Brandon's first swim meet.  There were 9 teams that participated.  Katie and Brandon both swam very well and we were proud of them.  Katelyn's hardest race was a 200yd freestyle.  she made it to the end and even did a flip turn on her last lap.  Brandon is like lightning when he jumps in and swims his freestyle.  He likes to look around as he is swimming to see what place he is in.  Our next meet is in Boise and we are looking forward to spending time with the cousins again.

Halloween has come and gone and our family decided to do the zoo theme.  Mom and dad were the zoo keepers and we had a panther, leopard, lion, tiger, and a cow!  We celebrated my 35th birthday and I realized that I thought I was 35 last year.  The kids made some cards for me and shared their Halloween candy.  jacob (2yr old almost 3) sang Happy birthday to mom all day long.  It was really cute!  Well I hope that this month has been good for y'all.  I loved the last newsletter and the pictures.  I am looking forward to hearing from Mel and Shannon soon!  Lots of Love to all, Mike, Mary, Katelyn, Brandon, Lizzie, Jacob, and Little Ben

Jim and Rachel Guymon Family

We did some fun things this month.  The first weekend we had a little
bit of a sad trip when Bailee and Jim sang at Bailee's baby cousin's
funeral in Arizona.  Bailee is so sweet and in her prayers asks Heavenly Father
to help Tatum's family remember that Maizee died but because Jesus died
for us she is in heaven and will see her family again later.  We got to see
alot of my side of the family in Arizona and it was fun to stop in and
chat with Steph, Mckaela, Dominos Damien and Jordan for a bit.

The next weekend Jim and I ran the Baltimore 5K race for fun.  It was a
really big event with several races that day including the marathon and
half marathon, so we had a good time and thought it was cool to run
around downtown Baltimore a bit and be all official with a timing chip, racing
bib and inspirational finish through Camden Yards.  We did decent for
old folks- we made it in the top quarter of about 1300 people and think
next year we'll probably take the purse.  :)

The third weekend this month our family spent the day at Port
Discovery, a really fun children's museum in Baltimore.  Bailee and Olivia really
dug the three story jungle gym and busted some Brazilian moves with the
capoeira guys.

Last weekend we got to hang out with Mel, Ruth, Adam and boys!  Mel
taste tested the famous Baltimore crabcake to put an end to the long disputed
rivalry between east and west coast...you'll have to ask him who wins.
We all had a great time at the National Aquarium in the innor harbor and
I'm still tired and full from our late night of settlers and fondu (we
won't mention who won will we Mel?)  Olivia enjoyed participating in
Halloween this year and ran right alongside Bailee dragging her bag and saying
her version of "trick-or-treat".  Now whenever she wants candy she points
to her bag on the counter, looks at me and says, "tick-o-teet".

Bailee got to go on several field trips with her preschool.  She picked
apples at the apple orchard and later made applesauce, she went to the
fire station and learned about fire safety, she took a nature walk in
Soldier's Delight, a national park near our house and she had a
Halloween parade doning her fairy costume.  Today I asked her what she did at
preschool and she answered, "I didn't sit on anybody today."  (Last
week she told me her friend Katelyn yelled at her for accidentally sitting
on her.)  Aren't kids great?

Corky and Liz Clark Family

This month has been very busy and eventful.  The girls experienced their very first snowstorm that they could see from their bedroom window.  It was a mini-storm, covering rooftops and lawns but melting by afternoon.  Just a small glimpse of what is to come I'm sure.  We have had some cold days and some very nice days.  We miss that California weather now and then.  This month we had a visit from Grandma Clark.  The kids have really missed having their grandparents so close.  After a visit from Grandma came a visit from Karen and her little boy, Jared.  Just under 3 months old and what a cutie.  The girls looked forward to Halloween all month and the day finally came.  Both Haley and Donelly dressed as "Pippi Longstocking" and Reese was a little lizard.  We took all 3 trick-or-treating.  Even Reese picked up on the routine after the first couple of houses and started sticking out his hand for candy at each house.  Needless to say we have had very sugared-up hyper kids the last few days.  Haley is starting to enjoy her piano lessons and feels really proud when she tackles learning a new song.  Haley's eyes have showed the first sign of improvement this last month.  We have decided to hold off a second surgery and give them a chance to improve to a safe manageable level.  Thank you for all the prayers and please keep her in your prayers. Donelly has been spending every "semi-warm" moment out on the swingset singing and swinging. Reese is a very happy little boy.  He has really become attached to daddy.  He gets so excited when Corky gets home from work and just jumps up and down to greet him.  He is picking up a lot of words and loves cell phones.  He calls them "Byes" for obvious reasons and has made actual calls from my phone.  So if you get a call from a little toddler it's just him.  Corky joined There.com to see what the site was all about and became quite hooked.  If you ever go on his username is "180".  He also spent part of this month installing an invisible dog fence for Shadow and several hours mowing leaves on the lawn.  (An endless process.)  I have spent my month sewing Pippi costumes, painting dressers pink and trying to stay warm.  We love all of our visits from family and friends and can't wait to see all of you.

Adam and Ruth Olson Family

Olson Family News

Well this has been an eventful start of the month!
Just last week Ruth rear-ended someone in rainy weather while driving home with the kiddos from work at the Preschool.  All were safe and no one was harmed but the front of our wonderfully faithful car is banged up-still working fine-just has a bit more personality!  The car she banged had a teeny scratch.  So there are many blessings to consider.  However, the car fun was not over for that weekend!
Upon our arrival in Maryland to visit Jim and Rachel's family, and Mel, Atom Riley opened his door and the wind took it banging it into the car next to us, making a huge dent and leaving white paint.  So far, no one has called us back about that one.......(Hopefully they wont!)  Then we hit a deep pot hole driving out to the Halloween party on that same night, flattening our tire!  Mel and Jim bailed us out of that one! But we had enough to stay at home for another 2 months!  So we'll be riding horseback from now on wherever we go!
Ruth's Preschool job ends in about a week and her piano teaching job will pick up two days a week.  She is looking forward to having her own studio room and plenty of students!
Things will calm down for Adam once he finishes his Masters Thesis and some Video Training he's in charge of.  Then he is considering staying here until funds for PhD are worked out. But ya never know with the Olsons-plans change over night!!!
Atom Riley has really started to love coloring!  He'll spend almost a half hour on a picture and loves to find someone to give it to. He and Josh love to play chase, hide and seek, choo choo trains, and anything where they each have a toy!
Joshua loves to wake up mommy and daddy and climb into bed with us.  Right now he loves his stuffed snowman, a green train, and a little Dora toy. He'll take them to bed, insist they get diaper changes too, and when he loses them he wont stop asking for your help to find them, until they are found.
The other one still growing says hi!
Love you all!
